A.N. Whitehead is, for some, in a world of his own as a philosopher. Bertrand Russell's dissertation advisor, the two teamed up to write Principia Mathematica. Many years later he moved from Cambridge England to Cambridge Massachusetts, where his unreadable work Process and Reality threw him out beyond the pale of contemporary academics.....he followed this with Adventures in Ideas...which sounds extremely readable, and most certainly IS --confirming his place outside beyond the pale. He is, therefore one of my cultural heros.
